World Food Safety Day 2025

June 7th marks the annual celebration of World Food Safety Day. This year’s theme, Science in Action, highlights the vital role scientific knowledge plays in reducing foodborne illness, lowering costs, and saving lives.

At the Desert Food Safety Coalition (DFSC), we proudly support this focus. Science is at the heart of what we do, and we rely on dedicated researchers and organizations who work tirelessly to advance food safety—both in collaboration with us and within their own innovative efforts.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the FDA-CFSAN research team for their outstanding work on the Southwest Agricultural Region Environmental Microbiology Study, completed last year after five years of rigorous research. This groundbreaking study stands as one of the largest environmental microbiology efforts to date, and its impact is already helping to shape safer agricultural practices.

On this World Food Safety Day, we also want to recognize the critical contributions of the Center for Produce Safety, the University of Arizona, and the USDA’s research arm. These institutions exemplify what it means to prioritize science and public health, enabling U.S. food producers to grow and deliver safer food every day.

Thank you to all the scientists who turn data into solutions and knowledge into safer meals.
